How to Personalize Your Google Home Page
A Step-by-Step Guide
Do you find the default Google.com page a bit bland? The good news is that you can add a personal touch to it.
In this guide, I’ll show you how to customize your Google home page with accent colors, themes, and even your own pictures to make your daily browsing experience more enjoyable. Let’s get started!
Before you can start customizing your Google home page, make sure you’re signed in to your Google Chrome web browser.
You’ll find the sign-in option at the top-right corner of the screen. This step is essential to save your preferences.
Customize Chrome
Change Colors
You can begin by changing the colors of your Chrome window and tabs. These option only change colors and don’t add any graphics.
To add some more interesting images, click on “CHANGE THEME” to explore them.
Select Theme
Once you’ve clicked “CHANGE THEME,” you’ll encounter a range of pre-installed themes for Chrome.
Choose one that you like. After selecting a theme, you can also tweak the shades or opt for a daily refresh, where you can have a new background every day.
Explore More
If you’re looking for even more personalized themes, scroll down to find the “CHROME WEB STORE.”
The store offers much more personalized and inspiring themes, offering a vast selection to suit your preferences.
Choose a Theme from Google Store
Browse the Chrome Web Store to find a theme that resonates with you.
For instance, I absolutely love the “FLYING PAINT” theme. Click on something you like and then add it to Chrome to apply your chosen theme.
Add Your Own Photos
Now, that is nice but if you want to make your Google page even more personal, you may want to upload your own pictures.
To do that, go to “THEME OPTIONS” at the top of the page. Select “UPLOAD AN IMAGE” and choose a picture of your family, friends, pets or images of your vacation.
This image will serve as your Google home page background.
Enjoy Your Custom Page
With your selected theme or personal image, your Google Search Home Page now reflects your unique style.
You can revisit the customization options anytime to make further adjustments.
Missing Customize Option?
You can’t always find the “CUSTOMIZE CHROME” option on Google.com.
Click on your Chrome profile picture at the top, and then select the pencil icon next to your image.
From there, you can change the theme colors and your Avatar.
Check and make sure that Google is your default search engine under Search Engines.
Make It Your Home Page
In the APPEARANCE settings, choose your theme and add it to Chrome.
Then activate the “SHOW HOME BUTTON” option. This way, when you click “HOME,” you’ll instantly see your customized page.
New Tab
The main Google.com page will always remain what Google decides it to be, which is most likely the classic Google page.
When you open a NEW TAB, you’ll see your customization in action, providing a fresh and personalized browsing experience.
Switch Home Page
If you want the main Google page to appear customized as well, you can go to APPEARANCE settings and set the CUSTOMIZED NEW TAB PAGE as your HOME PAGE.
This will make your primary Google page look personalized also (even though we are really customizing the NEW Tab and not the googl.com page).
No Customize on Google.com
Remember that the “CUSTOMIZE CHROME” option is only available on the NEW TAB page, not on Google.com itself.
Unfortunately, you can’t customize the classic white Google.com page as that is something Google can only do.
Enjoy Your New Page!
Have fun making your Google Home Page uniquely yours! It’s a simple way to add a personal touch to your browsing experience. Thanks for reading, watching and happy customizing!
